Several teachers from rural and underprivileged areas were able to avail free Teachers’ Training Program provided by Rotary Club of Dahisar. More than 150 of them opted to earn diplomas on providing special needs education and educating children with special needs.
The program was organized by the club with the help of renowned edu-tech company British Learning who developed technologies and apps such that beneficiaries could access the study material on basic phones and even without the internet. Teachers in slum schools in Mumbai as well as those from tribal areas like Palghar, Wada, and Vikramgarh took part in the program.
One of the most popular courses availed by the teachers was the International Diploma in Learning Disabilities that usually costs Rs 20,000 in the fee.
Rotary District 3141, of which the club is a part, has been taking up projects to empower and educate women for several years now. Rotary Club of Dahisar has the education of tribal and underprivileged children as a focus area. The teachers’ training programs were introduced by president Ranjit Bijoor as a way of combining both the issues.
