Fan-favorite reality TV star, Demi Burnett from the Bachelor in Paradise franchise, recently took to social media and shared her autism diagnosis. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she acknowledged the stigma surrounding autism and encouraged people to be more open-minded and accepting.
Demi Burnett first appeared as a contestant on season 23 of the reality TV show The Bachelor starring Colton Underwood. Later, she made a comeback on seasons 6 and 7 of Bachelor in Paradise and quickly rose to fame before doing a guest appearance on The Bachelorette season 15.
The series of photos shared by Demi also shared some useful informatics to help neurotypical people in dealing with an autistic person. Opening up about the reason why she decided to share her diagnosis with the world she said, “All I want is to have a better quality of life. I want to make sure anyone who is/was feeling like me can know you really aren’t alone. It can get better! And most importantly it isn’t your fault.” She also promised to share more about the journey of her evaluation and her struggles along the way.
The comment section of her post was flooded with supportive messages from her friends, family, and fans. While some of her friends from the industry applauded her candor, others showed genuine concern about the kind of psychological evaluations she underwent before getting her diagnosis.
Many autistic people also appreciated her honesty with messages of encouragement like, “Demi!!! That’s amazing! From a fellow autistic person (also diagnosed as an adult), welcome and I’m so glad you’re comfortable talking about it!”
