National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disability (NIEPID) is all set to conduct assessment surveys in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. These surveys, aimed at identifying, assessing, and certifying Persons with Intellectual Disabilities are to commence from September 22.
The Hyderabad-based institute falls under the administrative control of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It will conduct the assessment in three districts of Arunachal Pradesh namely Roing, Changlang, and Miao on September 22, September 24, and September 25 respectively. Various doctors, psychologists, and officials from the state’s health and family welfare department as well as other district authorities will also join NIEPID in the assessment and training programs.
Ganesh Sheregar, the Northeast coordinator for NIEPID informed PTI that, “A team of NIEPID officials will soon visit Arunachal, the only state in India where no schemes to empower divyangjans are operational.” Apart from conducting the surveys, NIEPID will also undertake the distribution of learning and teaching materials worth Rs. 20 lakhs among the identified persons with intellectual disabilities, Sheregar informed.
