A special art competition was organized in Srinagar by NGO White Globe with the help of Hussaini Sports Club and the Indian Army on Saturday to mark the Autistic Pride Day. The activity was held with the aim of reducing the stress caused by so many months of restricted movements due to the pandemic.
Talking about the event organized to mark Autistic Pride Day, organizer and chairperson of White Globe Saba Sheikh told ANI, “Children, both with and without autism, were not able to attend their schools and were not getting any special chance to come out of their homes for any kind of mental development related activity including art competitions.” She added that the competition gave them a chance to be out of their homes and be free of stress.
When asked about the children’s interest in art, she said, “These kids are super capable and are usually interested in vocational subjects like music. If we teach and treat them equally, they are capable of achieving a lot more.”
